ABORTION.
Abortion Laws
When is it ever legal to kill? Should the solution to an unplanned pregnancy be to kill the children already born to make room for the new? Sound extreme? We as a society would consider this manslaughter, yet we allow this to happen. Why is this scenario any different from aborting an unborn child? As freedom loving optimistic Americans, we should concur with the need to ban such acts of murder that abortions create. There is an urgency to reform the law that allows such travesties.
Thirty states have passed a law stating that abortion is illegal, only thirty out of fifty. Fourteen grant it legal, but only if it is vital to the health of the mother, if there is or will be likely damage to the fetus, and if rape or incest occurs. Three allow upon request of the mother, and three approve legal if it’s in the best interest of the mother. Some states such as Georgia have bills with certain criteria that a woman must meet to have an abortion. Starting with it has to be before the first twenty weeks of pregnancy, because the fetus can begin to feel pain any time after that. Research has proved that a child is living cell when the sperm and egg fuse together. Is this considered living or, is living only considered after the child is born? As Ronald Reagan once said, “I notice that all of the people who support abortion are already born.”
Self-reliance, everyone requires a certain amount. You should not rely on doctors to do a procedure to get yourself out of a predicament that was a 100% preventable. One should have to be responsible for her own actions. “…imitation is suicide…” (Emerson 391). Society has become such an abhorrent place we let everyone else make our decisions for us, we fall in to pressure, we fall short of the people we were meant to be. There are some extreme conditions, for example rape or incest. However, abortion should not be used as a form of birth control.
John f. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Thomas Pain were some amazing leaders they fought for a belief they had with hope to change the world as we knew it. They fought for freedom to have the rights and liberties that are enjoyed by everyone. When you get an abortion how do you know you’re not killing the next president or the only person that could ever find out a cure for cancer? The simple answer is you don’t. By killing this innocent little child we will never know what COULD have happened. “We reach the goal of freedom in Birmingham and all over the nation, because the goal of America is freedom” (King, Jr. 180). America has always tried to maintain a mutual freedom between everyone, every race, every disability, and every age. Should this change because you decide you don’t want a child? Try adoption.
“I feel the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child... A direct killing of the innocent child, murder by the mother herself. And if we can accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must persuade her with love... And we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts...” (Teresa). Think about two things, ten years from now will you regret this decision you are making right now. Second would you have wanted you mother to have an abortion when she was once pregnant with you? Who are we as a society to decide who lives and who does not?
